Most likely you have heard many New Year’s resolutions to put yourself first. Self-care is talked about a lot. Why? Mainly because we are all so busy going a million miles a minute doing all the things for everyone else and not taking care of ourselves. Especially women as we tend to be more caring for our partners, children, family and friends.

We tend to focus on everything else and our businesses can sometimes be missed as well when we put clients first.

But today I want you to focus on your business. In a way that you may have been neglecting.

It’s easy to get lost in the day to day and that’s why we have the plans and ideas and everything in place. But you must stop once and while to focus on the plans you made, the thoughts, and dreams.

You may have a practice of reviewing your goals or taking time away to work on the business. But I never had that idea until I was at a conference and the speaker said that you must schedule one day to work on your business. Hmmm…I thought, a whole day on only my business. But…I have sooo much to do. A whole day would make me crazy!

Guess what it doesn’t! And a whole day is actually only 4-6 hours out of a day.

I started working on having a day while I was using the Passion Planner. It has a month review after each month. It asks great questions to get you thinking and then it tells you to review your plan and write the next months goals.

Next, I participated in the annual Planathon run by Amber McCue and purchased the “Fresh Start Workbook”. It has Month in Review and Month Ahead sections in the end of the book. Loved this! Simple and straightforward.

But what really got me was this Facebook post from Carrie Wilkerson about Day 1. Read it. Simple steps to take each month on the first. It’s a reminder and a tool all in one.

Between all of the above, I created a hybrid version that I use each month to Reflect, Review and Plan on the first of the month. Now depending on the day, I might schedule this on the last day of the month or somewhere around it. You still have to work it into your schedule but I am not purposefully pushing appointments to other days.

You may find it hard to do all the steps in one day. When I first started working on my RRP (Review, Reflect, Plan) it would take one day to reflect and review then a second day to plan the month ahead. Sometimes there was a time restraint and sometimes I couldn’t wrap my head around all the things at one time. Especially planning a month and working in which events to go to and when to meet and work with clients, juggle kids and everything else.

If you feel you need more than once a month go ahead and do this every 2 weeks.

I have a check in about mid-month to make sure I am on track. Review my goals and see what needs to be changed and updated.

And you know I am tech and OCD about my calendar so I have these days as recurring appointment on my google calendar. I’ll admit they may not be on the right days but it’s already there for me to shift around and not forget about it.

Cause if it’s not on the calendar or written down, it doesn’t happen!
