On August 20th, I spoke at the National Association for Professional Women’s Fort Lauderdale Chapters meeting.
TOPIC: Keeping your Privacy on Social Media
The best advice for your privacy is basically to not share things that you do not want the public to see. There are many ways to block and limit how your words and pictures are shared. Think before you post!
I went over a few ways that the ladies can be safe on social media and the internet. Also in the handout I explained step by step how to post to different audiences on, how to make friends list and how to see what is on your activity feed in Facebook.
Here are a few tips to keep your privacy up-to-date:
- Review ALL of your social media accounts privacy settings. Some platforms update their privacy settings frequently which can leave you vulnerable. Every 3-6 months check what settings you are using.
- Review all friend requests. If you don’t know the person, go to their account and see if you have mutual friends. If not, do they have any friends? Do they have pictures? Are there any posts on the account? Use your judgment to determine if you should accept the request.
- Create Strong passwords. Use a password generator like, LastPass
